Over all mens winner Jay Curwen with the time of 1hr 24 minutes.

Life is tough for triathlon racers moments after they finish.

This weekend will kick off our triathlon race season, and to celebrate, we are putting on our first Half Ironman event in the area.

The Saturday sprint race will cover the same course that the Chatuge Challenge Sprint race of last year covered. The swim course goes out around the catwalk located by the wall of the dam (pictured below) then back to the transition area. The bike course is lightly traveled back roads for the most part, with a short distance on the main road, then back to the dam and the beginning of a 4 mile run that goes beside the lake and campgrounds at the Chatuge Dam.

Sunday will start off early with a package pickup at 6:30am and the race to start at 7:30am.

The swim course will start at the boat ramp across from the bike transition area, out around an island located off shore then back to the bike transition.

The bike portion of the race will be the same course as the 50 mile Tour de South course of last September (with an extra 6 miles added.) Again, this course will be 90% on beautiful back roads with lots of shading and scenery to deal with. The course has some hills, but nothing to severe, then around the outside of Lake Chatuge and back to the Dam.

The run portion of the race is the same course we used for two of our half marathon runs of 2000. Again, it will be a mixture of back roads and paved trails that go through the park and campgrounds at the dam.

Just a small warning: Lots of racers that came to participate last year said when they came back to race this year they were going to bring their familys to enjoy all the beauty of the mountains. I would suggest you book your rooms or camp area as soon as you decide to join us in this or any of our 2001 races.

A list of sponsoring resorts and motels are listed on the main page. Let them know thay you are coming in for the race to get a discount on the room.
